Study Urdu ("we", "us", "our") operates the website studyurdu.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your information.

2. What data we collect

2.1 Data stored locally on your device

Your learning progress (flashcard ratings, mastery levels, streak data) is stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless you create an account to sync it.

2.2 Account data (optional)

If you create an account, we collect:

• Email address — for authentication and account recovery
• Learning progress — synced to our servers so you can access it across devices

2.3 Usage analytics

We use two analytics services to understand how the course is used so we can improve it:

Google Analytics (GA4) collects anonymous, aggregated usage data including page views, session duration, device type, and approximate geographic location. GA4 anonymises IP addresses by default. Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga, _ga_*) to distinguish visitors. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.

PostHog (EU-hosted) collects anonymous product analytics with the following privacy protections:

• No IP addresses are collected
• No cookies are used — data is stored in localStorage
• No session recordings or screen captures
• No autocapture — only specific, named events (e.g. "card rated", "level completed") are tracked
• No personal identifiers are sent — analytics are fully anonymous

We honour Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals — when DNT is enabled, PostHog analytics are fully disabled.

2.4 Data we do NOT collect

• We do not collect IP addresses for profiling
• We do not sell or share personal data with third parties
• We do not use advertising cookies or trackers

3. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

Where we process personal data, our legal bases are:

• Consent — you choose to create an account and sync your data
• Legitimate interest — operating and improving the service
• Contract — providing the service you signed up for

4. How we use your data

We use your data solely to:

• Authenticate your account
• Sync your learning progress across devices
• Provide the flashcard learning service
• Understand how learners use the course (anonymous analytics)

5. Data storage and security

Account data is stored securely using Google Firebase (hosted in compliant data centres). All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We retain your data only as long as your account is active.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction with similar data protection laws, you have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Rectify inaccurate data
• Erase your data ("right to be forgotten")
• Restrict processing of your data
• Data portability — receive your data in a structured format
• Object to processing based on legitimate interest
• Withdraw consent at any time

7. Data deletion

You can delete all your learning progress at any time using the "Reset progress" option in your account menu. To delete your account entirely, contact us and we will remove all associated data within 30 days.

9. Children's privacy

Our service is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 without parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
